Ashley was pacing her room and wringing her hands together nervously. She still had no idea where she stood. Any further conversation had been cut short when Sasha had interrupted them outside. Maddox had released her without saying a word and had followed Sasha back inside to the party.
For her there had been no reason to stay. She had gone inside quickly said a hurried goodbye to her friends without much of an explanation and she had got a taxi home.
Her mom had been surprised to see her home early but when she had seen Ashley's expression she had opened her arms. For once Ashley found herself pouring out her heart to her mom. She told her about Maddox and what had happened. She had even gone as far as admitting she had slept with him.
The disapproval she had expected had never come from her mother, instead she was sympathetic and understanding.
"I know its hard honey but I think it might be a good idea to get you on some sort of brith control."
Ashely nodded. She honestly didn't believe she needed it but in her mom's mind she wanted the assurance that if it did happen again she would at least be protected in some way.
"I know what it's like to be young and have a tiny baby to look after."
Ashley went upstairs to shower and change before her mother brought up some hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows inside.
"Chocolate always helps," her mom announced handing her the steaming cup.
After her mother left she stared at the marshmallows and how they melted in the hot liquid. Her emotions were all over the place. Maddox and her had gotten a lot of stuff out in the open. They had both been the most honest they had ever been with each other.
But Maddox hadn't stayed with her. He had gone back inside with Sasha and that was what counted.
It felt like her heart was breaking all over again, damaging it beyond repair.
Even the chocolate didn't make her feel any better. It felt she had bared her soul to him and it still hadn't been enough.
She had to resign herself to the fact that despite everything said there was no way back for them.
Her mom knocked on the door and opened the door slightly. "You have a visitor."
Ashley set the hot chocolate down and went downstairs. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs just by the door when she saw Maddox still dressed in his tux but minus the jacket and tie waiting for her. The top button of his shirt undone.
"I thought was time to do things properly."
"I wanted to meet your mom and I want her to know about me. No more sneaking around."
"Okay," she managed to mumble.
"And I need you to be honest with me. Do you understand?"
"I know what I want. But now I'm asking what you want?"
"I want you," she whispered huskily, feeling emotional.
"Are you sure? I don't want to think that I'm trapping you in a relationship you're not ready for."
"I am ready, more ready than you'll ever know." He really had no idea how much she loved him.
He closed the distance and kissed her. Her arms went around his waist as his mouth moved against hers.
When he lifted his mouth from hers.
"We will talk about your future, the future we will have together. But tonight. I just one one thing." He released her.
"What do you want?" she asked softly when she followed him out of her house and onto the front porch.
He had a bunch of white daisies and he gave them to her. He remembered.
"They're beautiful," she breathed taking in all the tiny white petaled flowers.
"You looked stunning tonight. The moment I saw you I swear my heart stopped. You were the most beautiful girl there tonight."
"What about Sasha?"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "That wasn't my proudest moment. I've never had feelings for her. We having only been friends but I know she wanted more. So I used her to make you jealous, I wanted to see you hurt like I was. But it was a mistake and I'm sorry. I should never have brought her."
"Did you take her home?"
He nodded. "Nothing happened. I have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever."
It was a small appeasement but it had still been hard to see him with her.
"I can't believe you remembered I love white daisies." Her finger touched the flowers gently.
"Always," she responded.
"I remember everything about you."
His words touched her heart.
"I want the dance I never got tonight." He took the flowers from her and set them down on the nearby chair.
He pulled out his phone and put a slow song on.
He extended his hand to her and she took it. He brought her nearer and held her close. She breathed him in as she lay her head against his shoulder, her arms closed around his waist as they move together to the music.
"I love you Mad," she whispered, needing to express the emotion bursting from her chest.
"And I love you Rae." He kissed her forehead softly as he held her closer. "More than you'll ever know."
They danced for an hour that night, out on the patio under a beautiful night sky.
I hope you enjoyed my story!
